RENÉ coman

Bassist René Coman is a New Orleans native who has written and performed with the legendary Iguanas for over 20 years. Music from their records has been featured in movies and television programs including “The Wire,” “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Treme,” and “Phenomenon.” After studying with Ellis Marsalis at NOCCA and Bill Huntington at Loyola University, René embarked on a career that has included recording and touring with Alex Chilton, Tav Falco’s Panther Burns, Willy DeVille, Green on Red, and Charlie Musselwhite. Coman was featured on recording projects with producers such as Malcolm Burn, Jim Dickinson, Glyn Johns, Keith Keller, and Ethan Allen, including Grammy-nominated albums with artists Guitar Slim Jr. and Emmylou Harris. Coman’s production work includes records by Royal Fingerbowl, the Panther Burns, and Lynn Drury. He currently records and performs with a variety of artists including Susan Cowsill, Papa Mali, the Geraniums, and Loose Cattle. The creation of his weekly Troubled Men Podcast in 2018 has provided a fresh outlet for chronicling the New Orleans music and cultural scene.
